History

In 1908 John and Sarah Galloway moved their family of 5 boys and 2 girls from Ontario to a farm south of Fort Saskatchewan. Eventually one of the sons, Percy established his own farm just northeast of the present Galloway Seeds location. Percy produced pedigreed seed on and off in the 1920s and 1930s. His two sons Lloyd and Ken established a full time pedigreed seed production/processing and retail business in 1946 under the name of Galloway Brothers. At this time all pedigreed seed was bagged and sealed by government inspectors. After years of cleaning grain in an old facility, a new seed plant was built in 1961 on the present Galloway Seeds Ltd. yard site. At this point in time bulk certified seed came into being with authorized establishments being able to grade seed themselves.

In 1976 Lloyd and Ken decided to farm independently with their own sons. Lloyd and his son Neil continued to produce pedigreed seed. Ken and his son Jim also continued to produce pedigreed seed, but took over the cleaning, processing and retail side of the business. In 1983 Ken’s other son Peter joined the farm, and in 1984 Galloway Seeds Ltd. was established. Jim and Peter worked hard and grew the business. They added an office building, full length truck scale and new infrastructure. They established relationships with local farmers and became known as a trusted supplier of pedigreed seed.

Presently, Jim and Deb Galloway along with daughter Erin and son in law Dan, who joined in 2011 and 2012 respectively, are involved in running the day to day operations of the business. Peter retired in 2013, moving on to other endeavors. Galloway Seeds employs two invaluable full time employees, Ryan Murray and Matthew Perreault and several cooperators who are critical to our success.

Because of the hard work and vision of past and present generations as well as the continued support from our customers, Galloway Seeds Ltd. has grown to what it is today.
